Incorporated in 1967, SB Electronic Systems initiated decades of innovation and creativity. The business was founded by George Sims and Chris Barnett who still maintain an interest in the company to date.
Early inventions included the Telepen barcode symbology which represented all 128 ASCII characters, was totally secure and could be produced on ordinary printers. Telepen remains an internationally recognised barcode symbology today.
Alongside our symbology, our invention of the hand-held barcode scanner in 1972 was an exciting development. The universities of Manchester and Sheffield Hallam were first in line to order this original technology. Happily, both are still customers today.
