Improving accuracy with the Live Scanning Wand: Queen’s University Belfast

As part of their longstanding relationship with Queen’s University Belfast, AdvaNova installed a Live Scanning Wand to aid library stock takes.

Background

Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) is a Russell Group University founded in 1845. Known for its world-class research across life sciences and economics, it is home to four academic libraries. The university has worked with AdvaNova since the 2010s, using access control products.

The Challenge

As a long-term customer of AdvaNova, QUB faced a new challenge in May 2025. The team had not completed a full library stock take since before the COVID-19 pandemic. This left them liable to slow, manual processes with no accounting for lost or misplaced items.

Prior to contacting AdvaNova, QUB’s digital teams relied on time-consuming methods. These included manually uploading stock data to an SD card, requiring significant human resource. They needed a tool that could count items in real time and relay live data.

“Our accuracy has improved significantly, and we now have a more streamlined way to perform stock takes. The setup was simple and we knew AdvaNova would be the best choice for a product like this.”
