Tracking system for loan laptops at the University of London

Home to the University of London, in 2006 the university carried out a multi-million-pound refurbishment of Senate House, which has resulted in the building hosting many of the city’s prestigious events, as well as being the central library for the university and the School of Advanced Study.

As one of the UK’s largest academic libraries for arts, humanities and social sciences, the library holds over 2 million books and provides services to over 100,000 registered readers a year. One of the services that the library provides for its students is the ability to loan a laptop for use whilst they are in the library.

“We were existing AdvaNova customers, so when it came to upgrading our loan laptop service, we knew we could look to them for advice,” Roy Oostwouder, Information Systems Manager at Senate House Library explains. “We were adding new laptops and wanted to improve security to ensure that the devices were kept within a specific area in the library, but it was quite a challenge due to the partially open plan layout of Senate House.”
