What is the Slimline+?
The Slimline+ is a self-service kiosk designed for academic and public libraries. It streamlines everyday tasks such as check-out and returns while also serving as an information point for library users. Designed to handle mixed media collections, the SlimLine+ allows library users to borrow items including books and DVDs, while also supporting a range of self-service functions that help reduce staff workload.
Library users can:

- Manage reservations for items
- Access information on fees and fines.
With a new compact design, the Slimline+ is easy to install, even in space limited environments. It is fully customisable with 600mm and 900mm tabletop options, as well as versatile on-screen design.

How does the new Slimline+ benefit libraries?
The Slimline+ gives library users greater autonomy over their accounts, reducing the need for routine desk enquiries. With everyday tasks such as loans handled through the multifunction kiosk, helpdesk staff can focus on higher-priority support and services.
Features to help customers
The Slimline+ builds on the positive feedback received from existing installations. At Tang Hall Explore in York, one customer highlighted how user-friendly the system is for wheelchair users.
The streamlined touchscreen clearly displays key account information, including items currently on loan and outstanding fees. Customers can log in using barcode, NFC or keyboard entry, with optional passwords for added security.
A bright and engaging touchscreen interface features animated characters, user guides and intuitive swipe functionality. Context-specific help screens and subtle micro-animations guide library users through each stage of the process, making check-outs quicker and easier.
Full customisability
Staff have full control over the system display, with options to customise receipts, language selections, onscreen text and design themes. The built-in Envoy theme designer offers a wide range of colour options, allowing libraries to incorporate their own branding.
Accessibility options include larger countertops, large print text, ‘reach mode’ and voice instructions. These features ensure the kiosk is accessible to a wide range of users while further reducing the need for staff assistance.

No downtime
If wi-fi connectivity is interrupted, the Slimline+ continues to operate through an offline mode. This minimises disruption to library services and reduces the need for technical support.
Customers can still access key features including:

- Integrated barcode scanner
- Receipt printer
- Multiple payment options.
On the rare occasion troubleshooting is required, ongoing support packages are available through our remote customer helpdesk.
Other optional functionality
The Slimline+ can be tailored to suit each library’s specific needs. Integrations can be added for services such as event or resource booking, print and PC management, or access to the library catalogue.
The kiosk can also display messaging to promote events, opening times or other library announcements.
Additional services such as print management can be integrated, while multi-language support comes as standard with 47 languages available to serve diverse library communities. All of this is delivered within a compact, easy-to-install design that fits seamlessly into day-to-day library operations.
The Slimline range in practice
With over five decades of experience in academic libraries, we have installed our Slimline self-service kiosks at leading institutions including King’s College London, The London Library, and University College Dublin.
In 2022, we expanded into public libraries, working with Inspire Culture Learning and Libraries in Nottinghamshire and Explore York in Yorkshire.
The first Slimline+ was installed at Bristol College in January 2026, marking the next stage in the evolution of our self-service solutions.
